Context
The National Hearing Implant & Research Centre at Beaumont Hospital provides specialist care for patients with severe hearing loss. The website needed to communicate complex medical information to a broad audience, many of whom are encountering these concepts for the first time.
Challenge
Cochlear implants are difficult to explain, particularly for patients who may already feel uncertain or overwhelmed. The challenge was to translate clinical, technical information into something clear, structured, and reassuring.
Approach
The project combined full-site design with an interactive explainer that walks users through the process step by step. Content was restructured into a clear hierarchy, with each section building on the last to support understanding.
The scrolling experience was designed to guide attention and pace the flow of information, revealing concepts progressively rather than presenting everything at once. Layout, typography, and spacing were used deliberately to reduce cognitive load and make key information easier to absorb.
Outcome
The result is a clear, guided experience that helps patients understand a complex procedure and navigate information with confidence.
